John Isaiah Quarless married Elizabeth Lawrence on the 11th August 1898, forming the first union between members of the Quarless family in the UK. 

John had arrived in England from the West Indies (either Barbados or Guyana) sometime leading up to this, however we have no documentary evidence of precisely when. 

In May 1899, their first child, Alice was born. The baptismal record shows they lived at 18 Upper Pitt Street, the home of the Lawrence family.
