Albertha Quarless aged about 10.
Albertha (Bertha) Quarless was born in March 1919 in Liverpool, Lancashire, to John and Elizabeth Quarless. She was one of twelve children, growing up in a large and loving family. Sadly, at the young age of 12, she passed away on 2 March 1931 at the Royal Children's Hospital due to pneumococcal meningitis and mastoiditis, serious infections that were often fatal in the early 20th century before the widespread use of antibiotics.
Albertha's funeral service was held at St. Michael's-in-the-City, and she was laid to rest at St. James Cemetery in Merseyside. Her loss was deeply mourned by her family, friends, and community, as reflected in heartfelt newspaper tributes.
